| Significance | Savonarola was a Dominican reformer in the city of Florence. He preached against the immorality and extravagance of the citizens and leaders of Florence, the clergy, and even Pope Alexander VI. He was ordered to refrain from preaching in 1495. He refused and was tried for heresy. He was hanged on May 25, 1496 and his body was burned. |
