| Significance | Canisius was a Dutch Catholic theologian who became the first Jesuit in Germany. He taught theology at Ingolstadt and was the theological advisor to Cardinal Georg Truchsess von Waldburg at the Council of Trent. He wrote three catechisms that became popular throughout Germany. |
